Zagreb's premium art museum and one of the finest art galleries in Europe, Museum Mimara, is located to the west of the city in a neo-Renaissance building which was overseen by Zagreb architect Kune Waidmann. Ante Topic Mimara, a private collector, donated a vast amount of priceless objects to his home town, and hence the Mimara museum has 3750 works of art on display. The Spanish, Italian and Dutch paintings are the features, including pieces by Raphael, Rembrant, Rubens, Van Gogh and Da Vinci. There is also an archaeological collection with artefacts from ancient civilisations including Egypt, Greece, Mesopotamia and Rome, and displays of glassware, sculpture and Oriental art.
