Rio de Janeiro Sights, Sounds and Hotels

Corcovado is a 2400ft hunchback mountain in the middle of the city, opposite Sugarloaf mountain, and the pedestal for the majestic statue, Cristo Redentor, Christ the Redeemer. The statue is 98ft tall with a 26ft high chapel with the capacity to hold 150 people as its pedestal. The open arms of Christ symbolise a warm welcome to Rio. You can get almost all the way to the summit by road, bus or taxi, but the train which winds its way steeply up the mountain, through the dense forest of Tijuca National Park offering multiple breathtaking vistas along the way is by far the most affable mode. From the feet of Christ you command the most spectacular views on a clear day, and you will know that you are alive!

Rio de Janeiro's Corcovado is a familar sight, even for those who have not been to Rio de Janeiro before. If you haven't been there in person, however, you still have not seen it, and even if you have, it's worth a return visit. No excuses apply as there is a great selection of outstanding Rio de Janeiro hotels.
