Las Vegas Sights, Sounds and Hotels
The Mirage marked the beginning of an uninterrupted building boom rarely envisaged when it opened in 1989. The artificial volcano in front of the Mirage erupts at 30 minute intervals from sunrise to midnight, spewing fire and smoke high above the surrounding simulated lagoon below. You enter the resort through a flourishing rain forest, the Secret Garden of Siegfried and Roy, which is a sanctuary for a number of the world’s rarest and most exotic animals such as snow-white tigers, white lions, and an Asian elephant. You check in at a counter in front of a 20 metre long aquarium inhabited by thousands of fish. A 2.5 million gallon saltwater Dolphin Habitat is home to Atlantic bottlenose dolphins.
Although it may seem quite spectacular, the Mirage, Las Vegas is up against some fierce competition with the many other superlative Las Vegas Hotels. Each one has it's own unique and spectacular feature, and some are not only by Las Vegas standards, which are high, but on a global scale.
